When I’m taking training sessions I always get on the floor for some part of it. The way I get to the floor has changed drastically since I started doing it. This had come out of my quest to improve my bodyweight squat. I always knew that as a toddler we all knew how to squat and could all do it. In fact we did it from the bottom up since we were still figuring out how to stand up.
Somewhere along the way I had lost my ability to squat efficiently, if anyone was watching my attempts they would have probably fallen over with laughter. I was embarrassed since I move quite well otherwise with more flexibility and mobility than lots of people.
So what’s my thing?
Getting onto the floor through the squat. Every time I get onto the floor – that’s lots of times – I work on doing it in a specific way, straight down, bottom between the feet, control and no hands. Sometimes I do it better and others times not so great, but every day that I feel I am getting a little better, smoother or more controlled I can’t help but think how we all could use this approach to do so many things in life better.

So, what’s YOUR thing?

I know I have a good few others, like keeping a better schedule outside my clients and other people appointments (dance lesson, chiropractor, skate training and the like). A big one of mine is to be in the office and be productive when I scheduled it into my planner and not. ..oh, whenever. …
This is one of the disadvantages of working from home, there is no one and nothing that keeps you on track except your own schedule which you can choose to keep or not keep.
Obviously in the area of schedules and time keeping (or keeping on target) I need to be a little more creative as to how I can use the above analogy and make it work for me. And the reward might not be apparent as it is with a squat that is getting easier.
Or maybe I’m feeling this way because I am not as at home in this environment as much as I am in a movement pattern environment.

I am sure you can relate at least in some area of your life. What do you need to get better at, what’s Your thing?
Just pick one or two and build them into your day by doing them a little closer to how you want them to be in the long run.
You will be surprised how good or far you can get.
