It’s almost a couple of years ago now that I attended a sourdough bread making workshop. The reason for my interest was that I grew up with only eating sourdough bread. To feel uncomfortable after eating bread didn’t exist.
I have made lots of bread in my life, at first using flour I ground up myself (brick breads), and then using bread mixes in the 80s. A few years later I graduated to a bread making machine, complete with recipe book and ideas. From here I created all sorts of different flavours and textures in my bread as well as a few that didn’t turn out. None of them ever came close to those flavoursome earthy and simple breads from my childhood.
Much later I discovered a book that got me set on the track to making my own sourdough bread. From this book I learnt how to make my own starter and then use it to make my first sourdough bread. It was ok, as they say here: ‘I ate it’. Thanks go to my husband who willingly tried every bread I made and helped me get through the loaves so there was minimal waste.
These were closer to what I was looking for, but I knew there was room for improvement.
That’s when I happened to come across information about a sourdough bread making workshop. I registered and once there learned how to refine my bread making skills and how to fit sourdough bread making into my life.
This was important, since bread making is often surrounded by the perception of needing lots of time and energy.
I was proved wrong in this preconceived notion.
I saw how easy it is to plan sourdough bread making into your life, and how easy it is to teach.
That’s when I decided to start running workshops for anyone who wants to learn how to make this style of bread.
If we are looking to nourish our body and not only fill it up with meaningless energy, this is the way to go.
For information on the next workshop please drop me a note.
I look forward to teaching you how to make your own first sourdough loaf.
